1920's English Royal Mail Atlantis Ocean Liner Travel Poster. Royal Mail Atlantis Cruises Royal Mail Lines Ltd. ATLANTIS (1929a, Royal Mail Lines) postcard, Passenger liner built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast, that entered service as Andes on the Royal Mail Lines’ UK-South America service in 1913. Converted into an armed merchant cruiser in 1915 and in 1916 she, along with her sister Alcantara engaged the German raider Greif. Greif and Alcantara were sunk, Andes picked up survivors from both ships. Resumed commercial service in 1919. Converted, at Liverpool, to a cruise ship in 1929 and renamed Atlantis. Served as Hospital Ship No.33 during WW2. From 1948 to 1952 under government charter carrying emigrants to Australia and New Zealand. Sold for breaking up at Faslane in 1952.
